Magnetic shielding of underground power lines

18.05.2011

G-iron system has now started the design of a new shielding conduit (G-iron E.L.D.) especially intended for the electromagnetic shielding of underground power lines.
The aim of the new project is the production of a standard size of the conduit, in addition to the shielding of the power lines, of course.
The base will measure 500x500 mm- (height 500 mm) about, the size of the cover has to be defined, it will be possible after the first tests only.
To certify the G-iron E.L.D. conduit an express protocol will be drawn up, in order to value all its peculiarities correctly, too. For the same purpose (to test the G-iron E.L.D. shielding ability) we are design a specific equipment; in effect to recreate the magnetic field conditions generated by an underground power line, a special equipment is needed.
The shielding conduit will be offered modulated in two different configurations: G-iron H.E.2 and G-iron H.E.3.
Compared to a phase current of 1.900 A, using the most efficient setting we intend to guarantee a shielded induction level lower than 0,3 µT at a distance of 1500 mm from the source.
Elab Scientific Srl, spin-off of the National Research Center (C.N.R.) of Florence will certify the “G-iron E.L.D. conduit” shielding attitude.
The new product will be available from end of May / middle of June and the minimum productive batch will be of 500 meters.
